Flame Spread and Smoke Ratings

Profile Moulding's (DBA Crown-Molding.com) products have a flame spread rating of less than 75 when tested in accordance with ASTM-E84. This rating meets the requirements of the Residential Universal Building Code for Foamed Plastic Trim.

Moldings manufactured by any number of alternative methods are rarely the focus of fire rating specifications owing to the percentage of the wall that they occupy; however, Profile Mouldings (DBA Crown-Molding.com) recommends checking with local building codes if there is any question regarding these requirements.

Upon customer request, the Profile Mouldings (DBA Crown-Molding.com) fire rating can be upgraded to ensure a "UL", Class 2 (B) rating*. The capability of the "UL" rated products limits flame spread in the ASTM E-84 tunnel test to only 40 and reduces smoke development to 225-325. These test results are below acceptable levels for most fire coded requirements.
