A discussion over Crown Molding

A lot of house owners in the New Jersey area are beginning to appreciate the valueand results of adding crown molding to their projects. While crown molding instruction through home improvement television stations may be partly to attribute, less expensive crown molding makes this fine-looking accent available to a bigger market .

Crown molding is often utilized to improve the otherwise plain design of ceilings or walls, thus its more British name, "Cornice Molding", because the molding is positioned at the "Cornice" or dominant part of a structure.

While crown moldings could be explained by an artist as shadows, shapes, lines and light, many people simply see crown molding applications as a surround for the room, the crowning finish or as one customer put it, "My home would look naked without crown molding ".

Crown Molding manufacturing and design has altered greatly over time. Granite and Sandstone were often used in earlier days to create crown molding for the churches and temples of the time, carved by a stone mason or artisan in order to attach to the rockery or wooden area of the walls; pin nails, screws and fancy glues were not available.

There are still some craftsman, particularly in the Eastern United Sates and Canada that scrape the crown moldings into position with a plaster composite. Once an art passed down from father to son and so forth, there are rarely people still available to manufacture crown molding in this manner. The title itself is curiously derived from this; the skill of "molding a Cornice" or now "crown molding".

Most people are in all probability more familliar with wood crown moldings offered at many hardware stores. Wood crown molding is definitely very economical to manufacture using up to date machines that will turn a level piece of wood of various sizes into a crown molding in seconds.

While some people like to refer to polyurethane molding as plastic molding, people have been slowly getting turned on to rigid urethane crown molding, referred to in trade magazines as Polyurethane Millwork. Polyurethane Crown Molding, fashioned its roots in England, a hub for plastics in the early 1900s. Through the fiftys and sixtys this art applied to the duplication of decorative crown molding profiles around Southern United States and in Canada near Montreal and Toronto, Ontario.

Rigid polyurethane crown molding is made in a press or mold so it does not have to pass through knives that would otherwise limit the ability to construct a crown molding with more enhancing features.. If a craftsman to create decorative designs in a wood crown molding, they would have to be engraved into the profile or placed upon the crown molding, which would be a very time consuming art.

Originally, these polyurethane crown profile were duplicated directly from other plaster counterparts and therefore displayed the bumps and bubbles that would show up in the older crown molding manufacturing processes. Nowaddays, polyurethane crown moldings are made from an original part that is prepared end to end to be perfect and semetrical.

Since the beginning of this century, the Chinese and Asian markets have begun producing crown molding and millwork at very much reduced prices. It is now hard to find a factory here that does not bring in some quantity of crown molding millwork from china or additional countries abroad.

Crown-Molding.com is operated by it's parent company, Profiles Supply. Profiles Supply is growing to bring in other home improvement related items like plumbing and electrical for home owners and contractors throughout North America.
